A bill that would shut the public out from the decision of who sits on the powerful commission that oversees casinos has come under fire from gaming experts. “Transparency is essential,” said Bill Thompson, a national gambling expert at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. “It’s an attractive industry for corrupt people, and they’ll try to get an angle through politics or the board.”

No-limit poker legal in Florida on July 1

Once the new state-approved gambling regulations kick in, the biggest change is an increase in the amount of loot you can put out there on the table. Currently, the most a player can buy-in for a “cash” game is $100. After July 1, there will be no limits.

Armed with $1.7 billion in cash and debt free, Genting Malaysia is seeking acquisitions, new markets and potentially a strategic partnership in the U.S., Leong said. The Kuala Lumpur- based company, which said this month it may bid to develop a slots casino at Aqueduct Racetrack in New York City, first invested in the U.S. sector last year, buying MGM Mirage bonds.
